The Gingerbread Man

Gingerbread Unit

This week we have started our Gingerbread unit.

Run Run, Run!  As fast as you can.  You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!  This is a the common phrase found in many of the Gingerbread stories.     Many of the Lucky Ducks have been saying this phrase as they re-enact the story with props and playdough.  As part of this unit we will read a variety of stories and make comparisons of characters, and story lines.

Stories include:

Gingerbread Man – Karen Schmidt

Gingerbread Man – Jim Alyesworth

Gingerbread Baby – Jan Brett

Gingerbread Boy – Richard Egielski



Small Groups

Gingerbread Math Book - Students will identify a number and add that many buttons to the gingerbread man.

Making group Gingerbread people - Students will work together in groups to make a large gingerbread person.  We hope that you will take a look at them when you come to visit for our family party.

Making individual gingerbread men - Students will trace and cut a gingerbread person and decorate it.

Making moving gingerbread men - Students will color, cut and punch holes to make a moving a gingerbread man.

Choice Time

Making gingerbread from playdough and baking them in our sweet shop.

Games – Candy Land

Easel – Painting gingerbread houses

Art – Making a large gingerbread house

Wooden Blocks

Rug – Legoes



Don’t forget to save the date: December 22, 2010

The Lucky Ducks are going to create their own version of the Gingerbread man by selecting characters and a story line to re-enact for our family party.
